In 2010, German GeldKarte cards were loaded approximately 5.5 million times, transferring about 157 million € into the chip. Users of GeldKarte who own an cardreader can load their GeldKarte very comfortably via the internet, using their own computers (www.GeldKarte-laden.de).
More than 43 million paying transactions
Average paying amount about 3.02 Euro
In 2010, the card was used to make 43 million payments at approximately 600.000 acceptance points, paying about 3.02 Euro per paying transaction. Altogether approximately 131 million Euro were paid with the GeldKarte. Each day Germans spent about 355 000 Euro using their electronic purse, especially on paying for bus or tram tickets, parking tickets or cigarettes.
